DAILY REAL BLOG 021 - Mad At Yourself by Life Writer Life Speaker Life Coach Narah Valenska Smith

If you don’t want to be mad at yourself over and over again, don’t violate your own rules, standards and ideals. If you insist on doing so – in my case, by putting other people’s work before my own – you will not only suffer the consequences but also have to accept they are of your own making.

I wrote my last post early yesterday morning (Thursday, March 22nd) and yet it did not get posted until around 11:30 PM. Because the posts are set up to go out to my mail list on automatic and I missed the cutoff time, the email did not go out until this morning. Worse, it was not even the full blog post I wrote as I chickened out of sharing what I’d written last minute since I didn’t have the time to re-read it, edit it, and be sure it’d post before the day was done. All of it was my fault.

Manage Being Mad At Yourself

Although I still wrote yesterday and shared the post online, this is not the goal I set up for myself. I did not send my post in the morning and I did not share what I really wanted to. As a result, I was NOT happy one iota. I did not sleep well, I’m behind this morning still, and, all in all, I’m not in the best of moods.

Before I linger any further in the anger and self-loathing though, here are some useful tips on how you can manage being mad at yourself that I’m applying to my own situation right now:

  1. Take responsibility for your mistakes AND learn from them so you don’t keep repeating them. I took responsibility by owning what happened and sharing with you here. My lesson: YOU come FIRST, girl! NO ONE and NOTHING ELSE!!!
  2. Stop any problem before it begins by discipline and integrity. Do what you said you’d do. Keep your word to yourself! I am keeping my word to write and share my daily posts by writing this next post which will go out this morning as it is meant to… first thing. NOTHING ELSE gets done until this happens, period!
  3. Take immediate action to rectify the situation and make things better. I immediately came on here last night and made things better by making sure the post, even if late, did get posted and did get set up to go out early this morning. I am committed to DAILY WRITING and SHARING and will not allow a day to go by without doing so NO MATTER WHAT!
  4. Now that you’re back on the ball, have some compassion, forgive yourself and move on. You cannot stay angry and be happy. Forgive yourself your own trespasses, get over them stat, and move onward!

Begin Again

I refuse to carry any of my mistakes – large or small – forward anymore. That simply doesn’t work. An old boyfriend used to say “Borrón y cuenta nueva.” It literally translates to “Erase and start a new account.” meaning wipe the slate clean and begin again or even let bygones be bygones. In other words, don’t dwell. That’s the key!

Get out of your head, stop beating yourself up, and get back in the game. Quickly learn from things you experience and MOVE ON. That’s healthy self-esteem. Anything else is self-destructive.

Simply honor yourself and remember not to fall into the same trap ever again. When you’re feeling angry, know that your anger is not so much at what has happened but at yourself for allowing it to be in the first place. Don’t just sit there mad at yourself though! Take responsibility, stop it from happening again through integrity, rectify with immediate action, get back on the horse, and keep moving along.

Always HONOR your word to YOURSELF first and above all and ALWAYS remember the bottomline: Life is too short and too beautiful to waste!

All my love to you always,
