One of the things I shared about in the 1st episode of my DailyReal #vlog is that I am puertorrican. I was born on the island and raised there until the age of 10 (almost 11) when my family moved to the States.

In recent years, my Mom has gone back and lived there again although she still has her place here in Miami and travels back and forth. Fortunately, she was in Puerto Rico only for Hurricane Irma this summer as she had left 2 days prior to Hurricane Maria arriving to travel overseas.

As you all may imagine, I am SO very grateful for that! I never lost communication with my Mom as so MANY people have with their families. She has also since returned to this side of the world so she is fully safe and sound even though she’s unable to return to her home in P.R. at this time due to the big mess everything is over there.

Now, when I was a little kid, Ricky Martin was the youngest member of the boyband, Menudo, which was HUGE back in the day and which I, of course, was a big fan of. I even met him once! That’s why, when I saw this video just now from the Ellen DeGeneres show, it immediately caught my attention.

I’d read many articles and seen many pictures of Puerto Rico but they were so upsetting, I’d not watched any videos. Because it was Ricky though, I watched this one…
😭 Oh, my dear island! I’m just aghast at what has happened to you.

And yet, in spite of all the damage, here’s what really made me cry… my people being ever lovely and warm! That’s what the puertorrican people are all about and known for! Their attitudes and heart!!!❤️ 😍

As a woman in the video says: “El amor es poder!” It is translated on there as “LOVE IS STRONGER” but what it really means is “LOVE IS POWER.”
.
Either way, the statement is 100% true. So, LOVE, my friends. LOVE. Today… and always.
